Measuring Histories

 Measuring Histories
"Poppy Jo, Reinstalled and Reimagined"

For my measuring histories project I chose to measure time through my grandpa's story who passed away three years ago from Alzheimers and dementia. The green material above in my installation is cut up bubble wrap that I actually used to transport my sophomore project from last year back to school this year for the art show. The bubble wrap is to show the decay that my grandpa's illness caused. As the bubble wrap makes its way down and starts to dwindle until there is nothing left is to show the process he went through in the last three years of his life. To look at his life at a distance and see the all the missing pieces from a far. It was cool working with a material that literally protected him (the picture below) on its way to school with me makes me feel sad. It makes me sad because this digital drawing that I did in honor of him and for Alzheimer’s awareness that I made last year, I made a new art project out of the thing that protected him, when he didn't have any protection for what this disease did to him. Overall, I loved making this piece and although it made me sad and brought up the same emotions that it did last year I am happy when I create things for him hoping that he sees it and wish he could in person.
