Ritual and Personal Space Installation
Ritual and Personal Space Installation
For this project I wanted to use this time to work on my mental and physical wellbeing. Over the course of the 5 out of 7 days I chose to go get lunch at the DC, come back to my room and eat my lunch in front of my mirror. It sounds a bit strange but it was quite therapeutic. In the past I have had a unique relationship with food. In high school I went on a missions trip to Albania and when I came back I was barely eating for about a month, then I finally saw a doctor and got blood tests done. Turns out I got a virus from my trip, I got medicine for it and then it was gone. Even after the virus was gone my eating habits continued and I developed a minor eating disorder from it. I still occasionally can get back into it or get in that mindset again. Doing this ritual for 5 days just sitting there alone watching myself eat my lunch was something Iv'e never experienced before and I connected with myself on a more intimate level then ever before. To document it I chose to save all of the containers I got at the DC for my lunch and after every day of eating it I cleaned them out and started to collected them. To install this experience I put all of the collected containers from the 5 days and installed them on my mirror (the same one I ate in front of). I tapped all of them up there and took a picture with myself in front of it to be one with the ritual I did and be part of the installation. Seeing all the containers up there made me feel like I don't have to be afraid of what Iv'e eaten or how much Iv'e eaten but what matters is that I continue to be healthy and love myself.
